About Us
The Bangladesh Association of Hong Kong (BAHK) is a non-profit, charitable, and socio-cultural organization established in Hong Kong on October 29, 2003. BAHK was founded with the vision of maintaining and upholding the rich traditions, culture, heritage, and languages of Bangladesh among the Bangladeshi community and the multicultural society of Hong Kong. Additionally, it strives to promote the integration of the Bangladeshi community into Hong Kong society, fostering social harmony and building an inclusive and unified community.
BAHK stands as the premier platform representing the entire Bangladeshi community residing in Hong Kong, which is a diverse community comprising professionals from various fields, such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, bankers, financial advisors, pharmacists, journalists, and businessmen.
Since its inception, BAHK has been dedicated to providing welfare, social, cultural, economic, and other services to the community and the board. Moreover, it aims to assist the broader Bangladeshi community in contributing to the progress and development of Hong Kong’s economic and social wealth.
One of the significant initiatives undertaken by BAHK is the establishment of the Bangla School, a weekend school that focuses on teaching and promoting the mother tongue, Bangla language, Arabic reading, and cultural activities such as dances, songs, and dramas, primarily for school-going students. BAHK also organizes Cantonese speaking classes for adults on occasion. By participating in different cultural programs, BAHK strives to represent and disseminate Bangladeshi culture to the multicultural people of Hong Kong.
In addition to educational programs, BAHK organizes various events such as picnics, camps, sports, and cultural events for its members and the community. It also observes the national days of both Bangladesh and Hong Kong. Moreover, BAHK takes charitable initiatives to extend support to those in need.
The governance of BAHK is carried out by an Executive Committee elected by its members through a direct election. Membership in the association is divided into two categories: life members and financial members. Bangladeshi residents and students living in Hong Kong are eligible to become members of the society.
